Villarreal winger with six UCL goals on Man United radar

Manchester United have reportedly developed an interest in Villarreal winger Arnaut Danjuma and sent scouts to watch him in the LaLiga club’s match against Bayern Munich.

The Yellow Submarine won the six-time European champions by a lone goal in the first leg of their quarter-final fixture in the UEFA Champions League.

The goal was scored by Dutchman Danjuma, who took his total goals tally for the club to 14 for the season after joining them from Bournemouth in the English Championship in the summer.

Manchester United are reportedly preparing for multiple exits across their midfield and attack in the summer, and Danjuma has caught their attention as one player to replace the departing ones.

The Red Devils sent scouts to Estadio De La Ceramica to watch the Nigerian-born Dutch winger in action for Villarreal, and will definitely be reporting positives after his impressive performance and goal to down Bayern Munich.

It was the Dutchman’s sixth goal in the Champions League this season – level with Liverpool’s Mo Salah on the scoring charts.

Man United have already experienced Danjuma’s quality first hand as both teams were paired in the group stages. He terrorised the Old Trafford defence and set up a goal in the return leg of that fixture. They have reportedly been monitoring him since then.

United, reportedly, are only one of a number of European clubs tracking Danjuma’s progress after he moved to Spain from Bournemouth for £21.3million last summer on a five-year deal and a buyout clause of £64 million.

Premier League rivals Liverpool are also interested in the winger.

Rio Ferdinand advises United to trust new manager

Elsewhere, former United defender Rio Ferdinand has advised United’s board to take a leaf from Arsenal’s book and trust the new manager for as long as it takes.

Speaking in the wake of Man United progressing with their discussions to appoint Ajax Amsterdam manager Erik ten Hag to their dugout next season, Ferdinand said: “Manchester United are obviously now looking for a new manager, and hopefully things will change.

“If you look at Arsenal, they have found the manager, they trust in him and they have allowed him to do some things where a lot of people have probably doubted it.

“With the Aubameyang situation, where people thought he’s a big player and you have to keep him… But now Arteta has done what he wanted and Arsenal are on a good run at the moment.

“You have to trust in the manager and trust in the process and fingers crossed Man United will do that. At the end of the day, when you are a professional you have to apply yourself right every single day and the culture, with the environment that you are in, has to be structured and put together for you to be the best you can be as an individual, but in our sport, as a collective as well.

“Up until over the last few years Man United has not been set up like that.”
