“Unai Emery” – Journalist names Spaniard as option to replace Erik ten Hag

Manchester United fans are discussing the possibility of moving on from Erik ten Hag because of the Dutchman’s struggles as manager of the team.

The club is sat in sixth place on the Premier League table and are joint second on the clean sheets list with five. However, their football has provided nothing to celebrate even when they are winning.

A change is overdue at Manchester United and despite ten Hag being signed to effect that change, the status quo has remained the same. A good number of Manchester United fans and journalists focusing on the club agree that he has fared better than any of the club’s most recent coaches. The problem is the uninspiring football and the embarrassing losses that have come with his turnaround.

As the debate over sacking or keeping him rages on, Robbie Mustoe, former Premier League defender and current NBC broadcaster, has put forth Aston Villa manager Unai Emery as a possible replacement for ten Hag.

Emery is currently the coach of the moment in the Premier League thanks to back-to-back wins against Arsenal and Manchester City. Villa is now in third place on the table and are looking like this season’s iteration of Newcastle United from last season.

The Spaniard, who is an accomplished manager from his time in Spain and France, is in his second year in England. He helped guide Arsenal towards relevance again but lost the plot in his last season, leading to Mikel Arteta’s appointment. However, his exploits at Villa Park has seen his stock rise once again among English football fans, to the point that he is being touted for a move to a big side.

“I should not mention this, but I can’t help think it, the game we just reviewed and thinking about people who might come in for Erik ten Hag… Unai Emery”, Mustoe said.

“And I’m only chucking it out there as a bit of fun, right. Villa fans, don’t get too crazy about it. But just listen to this, in terms of his experience, his ability to win competitions, domestically and internationally, he’s been around the Premier League a bit now.”

“He’s been at a big club in the Premier League in Arsenal, didn’t work very well. He’s showing himself now what a superb coach he is. I think his attention to detail, his work ethic is perfect for Manchester United.”
