Gianluca Di Marzio has shared his thoughts on Harry Kane joining Bayern Munich, stating that it is not exactly an upgrade if the Englishman joins the German giants.
Since selling Robert Lewandowski to Bayern Munich, the Bavarians have not exactly been free-scoring and new signing Sadio Mane has not exactly hit the heights expected of him.
Over the past few weeks, Kane has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich and even attracted the comments of head coach Julian Nagelsmann, which promoted an angry reaction from Spurs boss Antonio Conte.
Kane is out of contract with Tottenham in 2024 and there is already much talk about what the next step in his career would be, given that he would be 31 by then.
Transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio has now claimed that the chances of Kane joining Bayern is rather slim, and any potential move will hinge on Antonio Conte’s future at Tottenham.
Expert issues Kane verdict
Asked whether he think a move to Bayern Munich will be the next big step in Harry Kane’s career, Di Marzio replied: “I think that depends on Antonio Conte’s future. Whether Antonio Conte will extend his contract with Tottenham. If Antonio Conte stays it’s because Tottenham really want to improve and win the Premier League and Champions League.”
“If Antonio Conte stays it’s because he has the guarantee that Kane, Son, Richarlison – all the great Tottenham players – will stay. I don’t think Conte will stay if Tottenham sell Harry Kane.”
“If Tottenham’s project is a successful project, it’s better for Harry Kane to stay in London with Antonio because we see how important it is to have a coach like him in training, in the tactical improvements they’ve had. And Harry Kane is playing better now too.”
Further asked if a move to Bayern Munich will benefit Kane at the moment, Di Marzio added: “I don’t think it would be the right move for Harry Kane to go to Bayern Munich now. It depends on what Tottenham want to do in the future. How they will perform in the tournaments. It is still too early to know what will happen next. It is difficult to predict what will happen.”
“But sure, Bayern Munich after Lewandowski was sold to Barcelona don’t have a striker like him. You didn’t buy a Lewandowski replacement. They have Mane, but Mane is not a physical striker. If they need a player like him, they will surely try. They will try to get Harry Kane or a player similar to Harry Kane.”
“I know Bayern Munich want Harry Kane. I don’t know if this is the right move for Harry Kane. He should stay if Antonio Conte stays.”
Should Kane leave Tottenham?
Kane might have broken several records with Tottenham and might probably even shatter the Premier League scoring record if he stays longer with north London. However, he is yet to win a major trophy with Spurs and his career and that could yet be a dent on his career from a general perspective of things.
Regardless of what anyone might say, a move to Bayern Munich, where he has a strong chance of winning trophies, remains in the best interest of the England captain.
