Ten Hag Urges Rashford-Holjund Improvement Post Spurs Draw

The effective Link-up play between Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund was on the talking point and major positive highlight from the game between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur that ended in a 2-2 draw on Sunday.

Both players registered a goal each in the same game for the first time this season. Rashford assisted Hojlund with the first goal, and Rasmus paid it back with a beautiful one-two for the second.  The pair played well together the entire game, and they nearly created goalscoring opportunities for their Reds teammates and each other on multiple different occasions.

The fact that the two received the most votes in Man united Man of the Match survey came as no surprise, with Hojlund winning the title for the first time while wearing the united jersey.

Throughout the first league game of 2024, United was furious as Spurs twice overturned from a losing position to earn a point and deny Erik ten Hag’s team the victory.

However, the manager is hoping that the relationship between his two forwards will continue to grow as the Reds attempt to put together a run of consecutive wins.

Ten Hag expects more from Rashford and Holjund partnership after Spurs stalemate

“I hope they keep going with this progress,” Ten Hag told reporters in his post-match press conference. “You see they are coming up with routines – that is what you need.

“You need it everywhere but especially in the front line, where there are tight areas and quick decisions have to be made. In a split second you need the right decisions, so you need that intuition.”

United often tried to break through Spurs’ defence, with Rashford and Hojlund leading the way and Alejandro Garnacho posing a threat from the right.

Ten Hag is also aware that an in-form attack has the power to completely change the team.

“That counts for every team,” he said. “When your front players are not scoring, it goes through the whole team.”

“It makes everyone insecure, starting with the front players, because they are of course eager when they’re not scoring and play with less confidence. But also defending as they know every goal they concede is then a problem.

“So when you can put out Garnacho, Hojlund and Rashford, and then Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen behind, it must be a threat.”

Manchester United are waiting on who they will face in their next fixture in the FA Cup between Newport County and Eastleigh as a replay is still in place for Jan 28 showdown.

After that they have Wolves to continue their run of form and build up more momentum in the league fighting for a place in Europe.

Manchester United is awaiting the opponent for their upcoming FA Cup match against Newport County vs Eastleigh, before travelling to Molineux to face Wolves to keep up their run of form and generate more momentum in the league vying for a place in Europe.
