Spurs close in on key signing as Saudi enter race to sign player who is excess to requirements

Tottenham Hotspur are going to be busy in July and August after letting go of some players who were considered surplus to requirements. One of those players is about to be replaced by a key target, according to latest reports.

Ange Postecoglou has gotten his pre-season training underway with seven players at the club’s training facilities. Some of these players are returning from loan spells and could be sent on other loan spells ahead of the 2024/25 season, while some are being linked with moves away from the club.

Captain Son Heung-min, Djed Spence, Bryan Gil, Emerson Royal, Troy Parrott, Alejo Veliz and Jamie Donley are among the names that are back in the squad. Only Son stands a chance of remaining at Spurs for the 2024/25 season among the names mentioned.

The name that’s heating up in the transfer rumours space is Emerson Royal. The Brazilian fullback is being linked with a move to AC Milan, meaning that he is set to join Tanguy Ndombele, Japhet Tanganga, Ryan Sessegnon, Eric Dier, Joe Rodon and Ivan Perisic as players who have already left the North London club this summer.

The Serie A side are still in talks with Spurs over a transfer fee for the Brazilian, who missed out on the Samba Boys’ 2024 Copa America squad. Milan offered €14 million which Spurs rejected and reports believe that the North Londoners are holding on for an offer that is not less than €18 million.

Milan now face competition from a Saudi Pro League side as journalist Ben Jacobs claims that a deal that is close to €30 million may be brought forward by the Saudi club.

The club, according to Jacobs, is Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr, who are on a mission to strengthen their team to close the 14-point gap between them and 2023/24 Saudi league champions Al Hilal.

Speaking on Playback, Jacobs shared the latest on Royal’s future and claimed a new club has entered the race to sign the Spurs defender.

“That one [Royal to Milan] is a possibility,” the journalist said. “I’m also told that Al-Nassr have entered the race for Emerson as well.”

“That will, I imagine, allow Tottenham to get the price they are looking for.”

Spurs are set to invest this money on 25-year-old Polish attacking midfielder Sebastian Szymański, who currently plies his trade with Turkish club Fenerbahçe. Spurs are offering €25 million for the player which, according to all sources, is a great deal for the Turkish side.

The 25-year-old will provide competition for James Maddison in the number 8 role in midfield
