Ryan Mason pleased with Spurs reaction against Man United after Newcastle battering

Tottenham Hotspur interim manager Ryan Mason has expressed his satisfaction at the way things turned out for his side in their 2 – 2 Premier League draw against Manchester United on Thursday night.

The Lilywhites have been fighting to get into the top four for most of the season and that fight was almost derailed in the last few weeks with Cristian Stellini at the helm. The Italian, who was Antonio Conte’s assistant, failed to muster enough fight in the team to push them beyond their limits in a season full of surprises.

The thrashing at home by Newcastle United over the weekend forced Daniel Levy’s hand and Ryan Mason was once again given the task to save his boyhood club. The former midfielder’s first task of the season was to grab some much needed points from Manchester United, with whom they are in a battle for fourth place on the table.

They did exactly that, coming back and sealing a 2 – 2 win at home after United went two goals up in the first half of the game. Goals from Pedro Porro and Son Heung-Min helped them comeback to a point.

The game could have ended differently but Barcelona loaner Clement Lenglet hit the crossbar and Ivan Perisic had two shots saved brilliantly by David De Gea in the Man United goal.

Speaking on the outcome of the game, Mason said: “To come in 2-0 down, off the back of the weekend as well, and go out there and fight for each other, and with our fans as well, because I felt them with us, that’s important, to see a team that’s together.

“The group stuck together, they fought for each other, and we played a lot of the second half in their half of the pitch, which I was pleased about. We created a lot of chances, should have scored more and we can walk off knowing we were together, and that’s important.”

Ryan Mason then spoke about his now-confirmed role as the club’s go-to man to salvage a terrible season. This is the second time he is doing this for the club he grew up in but he admits that he does not mind and will always be available to answer any calls to help the club.

“It means a lot, of course, I’m committed to this Club, always have been. I’m very proud to be standing here representing this Club. I’ve always said I feel ready, and I wanted to see a team that transferred to our fans that we’re fighting for each other, running for each other and we want to be together. I saw that today, and that makes me very happy.”
