Rodgers delighted with Leicester City’s first win of the season

Brendan Rodgers was delighted to see Leicester City claim their first win of the season after a dominant display that saw them win 4-0 against Nottingham Forest on Monday night.

In their first Premier League encounter with Forest since 1999, a brilliant brace from James Maddison put the Foxes on course for a crucial win before Harvey Barnes and Patson Daka then added goals of their own to make it a comfortable win for the hosts.

It’s a result which ends a six-game losing streak in the Premier League and sees Leicester move from the bottom of the table, ahead of Forest who are now bottom of the log.

Prior to the fixture, Rodgers was under fire and there were reports that he could be sacked if he lost to Forest but thankfully for the Northern Irishman, none of that came to light.

Rodgers pleased after first win

Speaking after the win against Forest, he said: “It’s a big thank you to [the fans] because we needed that,” the Northern Irishman said. “They were right behind the team and it’s a great night for them.”

“It was a brilliant night for the supporters and the players. The intensity, right from the very first whistle, was there. The desire to win the ball was there and then we played some fantastic football and scored some great goals. It was a really good night for us.”

In Leicester’s first game post the since the international break, the hosts let the goals flow, having led by a three-goal margin before half time. Rodgers did feel that the break offered his side a chance to evaluate their season so far and focus on repairing their early-season form.

“I felt the international break gave us the chance to reset,” he added. “It’s been a tough market for us over the summer and then the first seven games, with the opponents we had, and everything that went on.

“It gave us a chance to reset and refocus and we knew this was going to be a huge game, not just in terms of points and the performance, but for the supporters because, last season, we let them down. We made up for that tonight. They’ll be proud of the team, the four goals and the clean sheet.”

What next for Leicester?

Now, the aim for the Foxes will be to build momentum and climb further up the table. Next up for City is a trip to Vitality Stadium to face AFC Bournemouth at the weekend.

They will fancy their chances at claiming points in their next fixtures, which include Crystal Palace, Leeds United and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
