River Plate eyeing Germán Pezzella’s return

Argentine heavyweights River Plate are seriously considering activating the release clause of a key defensive player at Real Betis, according to Mundo Deportivo, which cites Argentine outlet TyC Sports. The player in question is Germán Pezzella.

Pezzella’s interest in returning to River Plate

Veteran defender Pezzella recently left Spain to join the Argentine national team. During an interview with Olé, the World Cup winner expressed his interest in returning to his home country to reunite with River Plate. Pezzella remarked, “My story at River, because of how it happened before I left, leaves me with things inside and a certain wound to heal.”

River Plate’s plans and financial considerations

The leadership at Estadio Monumental is equally eager to bring back their former defender. TyC Sports reports that River Plate is “waiting for Pezzella’s okay to deposit the Argentine’s termination clause,” which is estimated to be between €4-5 million, as per the terms of Pezzella’s latest contract renewal with Betis.

With mutual interest between the player and the club, the next steps hinge on Pezzella’s decision to finalize the deal.
