The Brazilian striker’s potential transfer fee has been confirmed as the 2024/25 Premier League season enters it’s final eight games.
Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Matheus Cunha has been attracting a lot of attention from all across Europe thanks to his exploits for the Old Gold in the 2024/25 season.
Cunha has scored 13 goals and assisted four more in the Premier League from 26 appearances, and has scored 15 goals from 29 appearances across all competitions. While he is their leading goalscorer this season, his 13 goals place him in the top 10, where he is joint-eighth with Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.
Wolves are destined to finish in the bottom half of the table, with their current goal being to finish as far away from relegation as possible. This means that a player of Cunha’s quality will likely seek greener pastures.
Release Clause Sets Transfer Price at £62.5 Million
With the reality of their final league standing at the end of the 2024/25 season dawning on them, Wolves are gearing up to lose the striker. In the Premier League, Arsenal, Nottingham Forest, Manchester United, Tottenham and Liverpool are believed to be monitoring the former Atlético de Madrid forward. However, it will cost them not less than £62.5 million to complete the operation.
Cunha extended his deal in January, which makes an early exit uncharacteristic. However, reports claim that the Brazilian and his entourage requested for a release clause to be included in the new contract for said amount, and that it would become effective after the final whistle of the 2024/25 season.
Wolves also made sure to insert a clause in their favour and that is that the release clause would not be lowered by any means in the unlikely event that they get relegated.
While Cunha is an interesting prospect for the teams interested, the release clause might throw them off a bit. They will all be encouraged by Cunha’s desire to test himself at the highest level, however.
“I had a lot of offers (to leave in January) but I wouldn’t feel well if I had done it,” he said after signing a contract extension with Wolves in January. “Some things you can’t control but I couldn’t leave the club in the middle of the season, in a difficult situation, in the relegation zone.
“Now, we’re close to achieving our goal [of staying up]. But I’ve made it clear that I need to take the next step. I want to fight for titles, for big things. I have potential.”
