Retegi on the verge of Saudi relocation

Mateo Retegui is set to depart Atalanta, with a lucrative transfer to Saudi Arabian side Al Qadsiah nearing completion. The Italian international is expected to join for a fee close to €70 million. Personal terms have already been agreed upon, with Retegui poised to sign a deal worth €20 million per season.

The move represents a significant financial gain for Atalanta, but also creates a major gap in their forward line ahead of the new campaign. With Retegui’s exit looming, the club has shifted focus to identifying suitable reinforcements in attack.

Lucca, Raspadori, and Daghim under consideration

In the wake of Retegui’s departure, Atalanta have identified three possible options to fill the void. Udinese’s Lorenzo Lucca is among the frontrunners, with the club having already made initial contact over a potential move. Lucca offers a strong physical presence up front and is seen as a like-for-like replacement.

Giacomo Raspadori is another long-term target for La Dea. The Napoli attacker has been on Atalanta’s radar since the previous summer window and remains a serious option due to his technical ability and positional versatility.

Also being tracked is Adam Daghim, the young forward currently with Red Bull Salzburg. Atalanta have been monitoring the Danish talent for some time, viewing him as a player with high potential and a good fit for their system.

Lookman’s status could shift strategy

Atalanta’s final decisions in the transfer market may hinge on the situation surrounding Ademola Lookman. Should the Nigerian winger depart, the club could opt to bring in not just one, but two new forwards to rebuild the frontline.

Lookman has been an influential figure in Atalanta’s recent campaigns, and his future remains uncertain amid growing interest from other clubs. His exit would significantly alter the dynamics of the team’s attack and prompt a more aggressive recruitment push.

Scamacca expected to lead the line in 2025–26

While reinforcements are being pursued, Atalanta are also counting on the return of Gianluca Scamacca. The Italian striker missed the entirety of the last season due to a serious knee injury but is now on track to feature prominently in the upcoming 2025–26 campaign.

The club views Scamacca’s comeback as a crucial part of their offensive plans and believes he can be a key figure once fully integrated back into the squad. His recovery adds a layer of stability to an otherwise transitional summer for Atalanta’s forward department.
