Report: PSG angered by Man United decision to go with Erik ten Hag instead of Pochettino as new manager

In some surprising news, Paris Saint-Germain are said to be displeased with Manchester United for choosing to appoint Erik ten Hag over Mauricio Pochettino after interviewing both managers as candidates for their vacant manager role.

United had Ralf Rangnick in the dugout for six months with the aim of taking their time to search for a worthy manager to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who was sacked in December. Pochettino was considered next in line for the role and the Argentine was leaning towards leaving PSG to move to Old Trafford.

It was even reported that Sir Alex Ferguson was backing the former Tottenham Hotspur manager for the United role. However, the club identified former Ajax Amsterdam manager ten Hag and unanimously decided to move for the Dutchman.

Reports now claim that PSG are upset at the Red Devils’ decision as they hoped that Pochettino’s move to the 13-time Premier League champions would lead them to buy out the Argentine’s contract and lower the cost of sacking him.

The French Ligue 1 champions have chosen to part ways with Pochettino after 18 months because their main aim of securing the UEFA Champions League title was not met. Pochettino won them three titles including their record-equalling tenth Ligue 1 trophy in 18 months but none of them compared to the Champions League title for the Parisiens.

They are currently fishing for a new manager but will have to deal with the issue of firing Pochettino and his backroom staff which will set them back €20 million.

Pochettino looking to return to Premier League

The Telegraph, who made these claims, stated that Pochettino and PSG began to fall out long before their humiliation at the hands of eventual Champions League winners Real Madrid. The loss became the straw that broke the camel’s back as club president Nasser Al-Khelaif was reported as stating that Pochettino and Leonardo Araujo, the club’s sporting director at the time, would pay.

Leonardo has since been axed from his role and has been replaced by Luis Campos, the man who discovered Kylian Mbappe at AS Monaco. Pochettino looks to be next, with their sightts set on an unwilling Zinedine Zidane.

Pochettino, however, is eyeing a return to the Premier League but there are currently no clubs looking for a manager.
