Report: Juventus to move for Mason Greenwood in the summer

Reports coming out of Italy and England claim that Juventus are plotting a move for Mason Greenwood in the summer.

The Old Lady are looking to sign the forward on loan for the 2023/24 season. Greenwood was the subject of football’s most infamous scandal in the past year. He was allegedly recorded on tape physically and sexually assaulting his partner, leading to the suspension of his contract by Manchester United.

Having spent time behind bars, gone to court and had the charges against him dropped, he is now free to play football again.

Manchester United are reportedly at a loss on what to do with the 21-year-old forward. It has been reported that there is a division within the club about his possible return. The club’s women’s team have also expressed their discomfort with having him back at the club.

He is still tied to them contractually and he believes that his episode has marked the end of his time with the club, as revealed by other reports which cite his conversations with his friends and family.

A source told The Sun, who came out with these reports: “Mason believes he’s finished at United.

“He’s sat at home kicking his heels and very frustrated. He wants to get back playing football but realises his situation is very complicated and it’s his own doing.

“He is determined to play football again but doesn’t think he’ll ever pull on a United shirt ever again.”

Juventus have reportedly positioned themselves as an option for the youngster. They are looking to use Paul Pogba as leverage to convince him to join them ahead of next season. The report also claims that Manchester United will be willing to send him out on a long term loan deal so that he can run out his contract at the club.

Greenwood is tied to the Premier League side until 2025 and is on a suspended £75,000-a-week wage. Juventus may not be willing to get him in for that long but Greenwood is not short of admirers.

AC Milan and AS Roma are also understood to be monitoring the situation, as are clubs in Turkey. Juventus, however, are hoping that they can sweeten the deal by getting Paul Pogba to influence Greenwood’s decision ahead of the summer transfer window when the move can be made official.

They are understood to have contacted his representatives while looking to use the friendship he has with the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner as leverage to sway his decision.
