Report: Harry Kane comments on possibility of career outside England

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane is attracting interest from Bayern Munich and the striker has made his feelings known about the possibility of him moving abroad.

Kane is in the final year of his contract at Spurs and is one of the main characters of the 2023 summer transfer window as a result. Interest from Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are the top three reported transfer news with Kane as the subject.

The German Bundesliga side have already approached Spurs with a bid of £65 million to discuss the player’s transfer and have been rebuffed. Spurs are adamant about keeping the player despite already placing a £100 million valuation on the England Three Lions captain. It is understood that Kane is Bayern’s main target for the summer as they seek a proper striker replacement to replace Robert Lewandowski.

Spurs’ stance on the issue looks solid and if they will be shaken, a bid of £65 million is not going to do the job. The buck stops at Kane’s table, however, but the Spurs’ all-time leading goalscorer has hinted at his willingness to move abroad at some point in his career.

He made this revelation a few years ago when speaking to Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville on their football lounge show, The Overlap. The former Leicester City loanee stated that the timing of the move has to be right. Many fans will argue that the timing is now as Kane is already an England Three Lions and a Premier League great without any marked team achievements to his name.

“Of course, there’s always the option of maybe moving abroad one day but I don’t think that really interests me in the near future,” Kane, who was 27 at the time, said.

In another interview in February 2023, after he hit his 200th Premier League goal to join Wayne Rooney and Alan Shearer as the only men to have hit that milestone in the league, he addressed the issue of him moving abroad again. “It’s always there in the back of my mind but I just take it game-by-game, season-by-season,” he said.

“It’s [Shearer’s all-time Premier League goal record] definitely there to be broken and I’m feeling good and feeling fit so we’ll see what happens. It’s been an amazing journey. I’ve been here since I was 11 years old, it’s 18 years of my life, a lot of hard work and dedication.

“I’m extremely proud to represent this club and score 267 goals for them and 200 Premier League goals for them is something I’ll never take for granted. I’ve just got to keep it going, score as many as I can and see what happens from there.”

His comments on the day of his 200-goal milestone also indicate that he is in favour of remaining in England to break Shearer’s record. This is another bottleneck which Bayern – or Real Madrid – will face in trying to convince the striker to make the move abroad this summer.

With Manchester United in the running, it is gearing up to be an interesting summer for Harry Kane.
