Report: Antonio Conte eyeing PSG job

Le Parisien has reported that Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte is eyeing the top job at Paris Saint-Germain next season.

Antonio Conte has a rich profile having worked with the Italian national team, Juventus, Inter Milan, and Chelsea. Now with Tottenham Hotspur, the Italian manager is trying his hands at a club who are a level below his previous employers.

However, his time at the club has been very promising and Spurs now have the makings of a side that can challenge for titles in England. Having given the club identity and gotten them fighting again, Conte feels like it is time to move on.

This is according to Le Parisien who claims that Conte has spoken to some key figures at PSG in order to sell himself for the role which is expected to be vacant at the end of the season.

The French Ligue 1 giants will reportedly part ways with Mauricio Pochettino in the summer for his failure in the UEFA Champions League and are currently considering their options for the Argentine’s replacement.

Pochettino has also been linked with a return to North London and Conte, who believes he is a favourite for the role, has convinced PSG to add him to their list of options.

Topping that list of options, however, is former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane, who is currently on sabbatical from the sport and will reportedly only return for the France national team job or the PSG job. More recent reports, however, claim that Zidane places priority on the France national team job which could see him wait till after the 2022 FIFA World Cup later this year to make a decision.

In a statement last month, however, Conte reiterated his commitment to Spurs. The former Chelsea manager said: “For sure at the moment there is only one truth – I am committed to this club for another year.

“The club wanted this type of situation and I accepted it because it was good to get to know each other. After four months I think the club have understood the way I want to work and I understand the club.

“We have three more months till the end of the season to continue to improve our knowledge of each other and then to find the best solution for both. I can tell you that I am enjoying working for this club and I would like to fight for something important for this club.”

It is also understood that Conte will only remain at the club if their transfer plans impress him. It remains to be seen what the outcome of his reported PSG meeting and the decision of Spurs chairman Daniel Levy on the club’s summer transfers will be.
