Real Madrid Triumph as Modric Makes History

Luka Modric, at 39 years old, became the oldest player to ever appear for Real Madrid during their 2-1 victory over Celta Vigo in La Liga. The Croatian midfielder, who came on as a second-half substitute, played a crucial role by setting up Vinicius Jr.’s decisive goal. With this win, Real Madrid moved level on points with Barcelona at the top of the table, though they trail on goal difference and have played an additional game. Barcelona faces Sevilla later in the weekend.

Modric’s Impact and Ancelotti’s Praise

Modric’s presence on the pitch made an immediate difference. Shortly after his introduction, he provided an assist to Vinicius, whose goal restored Real Madrid’s lead in a hard-fought match. Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti expressed his admiration for the veteran player, calling him a “top professional and a great guy.” Ancelotti highlighted Modric’s dedication and achievements, adding, “It’s a pleasure to coach him.”

Celta Vigo Push Real Madrid to the Limit

Real Madrid took an early lead in the 20th minute through Kylian Mbappe’s stunning long-range effort, which followed a pass from Eduardo Camavinga. However, Celta Vigo frequently troubled the Madrid defense, creating several clear opportunities. Williot Swedberg came close to scoring before Mbappe’s opener but missed a golden chance against Thibaut Courtois. Celta’s efforts were eventually rewarded in the second half when Swedberg found the net after a low cross from Oscar Mingueza.

Although Real Madrid appeared vulnerable defensively, Vinicius Jr. secured the win by finishing Modric’s perfectly-timed pass in the 65th minute. Despite some anxious moments and a disallowed goal, Real Madrid held on for the three points. Ancelotti expressed his satisfaction with the result, particularly after the challenges posed by the international break. Real Madrid now turn their attention to their next match against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.
