Ray Parlour has urged Arsenal to offer the duo of Martin Odegaard and William Saliba new contracts, following the news of Bukayo Saka’s new deal.
Reports on Tuesday revealed that Saka has agreed to sign a new contract with the Gunners, a deal which will see the 21-year-old earn wages of £300,000-a-week, making him the club’s highest earner.
This is a welcome development for Arsenal, who have managed to tie down the England winger to stay put at the club, following months of speculation surrounding his future, given that his current deal expires next year.
Ray Parlour has now urged Arsenal to build on that action, by offering Martin Odegaard and William Saliba new contracts as well.
Parlour wants Arsenal to offer new contracts to key duo
“In the open market god knows what he would be worth, but every team would be queuing up around the block to sign him if they could,” Arsenal legend Parlour told Fairplay.
“Most teams around the world would love someone like Saka in their team, who’s that good at that early age in his career, so it will be brilliant news for Arsenal when his contract extension is confirmed.”
“I do believe that he’s one of the best in the world at the moment in his position. There’s Vinicius Jr. at Real Madrid – I know he’s on the other side but when talking about wingers, they are both up there. So I’m very happy to have him, not just for Arsenal but for England as well.”
“He’s going to be a real superstar I guarantee, he has all the attributes needed. I think he’s that good. All he has to do now is concentrate on his football career and concentrate on getting better, which he will.”
Saka will surely like what is happening at Arsenal at the moment, with the Gunners clearly on the ascendency under Mikel Arteta.
“The owners know now they’ve got the right manager to take the club forward and get back to winning ways like they did under Arsene Wenger. They’ll back the manager as we’ve seen by putting down the money for Saka’s extension, so it’s great news.”
Arsenal are at the top of the Premier League standins, eight points clear of Manchester City the season approaches the business end of things. Mikel Arteta and the club’s hierarchy will be eager to retain as much of his team as possible at the Emirates as they look to future success.
