Rasmus Hojlund calls for calm in Man United fan base

Rasmus Højlund has asked the Manchester United fans to be patient with the team after their UEFA Champions League loss to Galatasaray on Tuesday.

The Denmark international scored Manchester United’s two goals on the night but defensive errors and another gaffe from goalkeeper André Onana led to the Turkish team coming back from potential defeat twice to equalise and eventually win the tie.

Fans of the club were livid and expressed their displeasure to the players for their performance. Højlund apologised after the game on the pitch with tears in his eyes and took to the media after to make more apologies.

The former Atalanta BC striker also asked the fans to be patient with the team as the season still has a long way to go while calling on his teammates to stick together and keep playing their football.

“We need to remember we can’t [concede] goals right after we score,” he said. “We [have] had a few games now where they just score, after we scored.”

“So we want to go back and analyse that tomorrow and talk about it in the group.”

“And of course, it’s a tough period now, but we need to stick together and that’s the only way we can get out of this period.”

He then spoke about his performance in the game which saw him convert two chances while creating a lot of danger for the Galatasaray backline. “It’s about getting in there, for me,” said Rasmus of his first effort. “I always try to get into the dangerous positions.”

“Yeah, it was a good feeling,” said the 20-year-old about his second goal which was scored at the Stretford End. “It was an incredible goal. I like to call that a signature Rasmus goal, you know, on the left side running a lot.”

He also took some time to appreciate the efforts of Marcus Rashford in helping him get on the scoresheet. The English forward has been the target of the fans’ ire for some time now due to perceived stagnation in his game and stubbornness towards evolution. The player seemingly set out to prove that he can be more of a team player with an incredible shift. Some of his plays ended up wrong but he was largely impressive.

“I’ve been bought to be scoring goals and now I was happy that I got two more down today. But again if we talk about Marcus,” Højlund said. “He [now] knows that I can keep up with his pace when we go on the counter, and we saw a glimpse of that today.”
