Rashford blasts ‘untrue’ Manchester United contract claim

Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has rubbished reports that he is requesting £500,000-a-week before he puts pen to paper.

The 25-year-old has been in tremendous form for United this term, bagging 27 goals across all competitions so far.

However, Rashford is approaching the final year of his contract with United this summer, prompting fears that he could depart the club on a free transfer, if all parties don’t agree on a new deal.

Reports on Thursday claimed that Rashford is stalling over a new contract and is demanding excess of £500,000 a week, inclusive of bonuses. However, the Red Devils are unwilling to offer new deals to any player until the club’s potential takeover is all sorted out.

In the wake of those reports, Rashford has come out to rubbish those reports, saying they are completely untrue and he is only focused on playing his football at the moment.

Rashford brands contract claims untrue

Responding to the speculation on Twitter, Rashford wrote: “Just before this one starts to do the rounds! It’s complete nonsense.”

“The club and myself have been respectful to one another, and that’s how it will remain.”

“My focus is purely on finishing as well as possible in the league and winning trophies.”

Rashford also posted on Instagram: “Another non-story flying around about my advisers and me making demands.

“It’s complete nonsense! My aim and the club’s aims are to finish as high as possible in the league and try and win a cup or two.”

It comes on the same day that goalkeeper David De Gea has also refused a contract renewal with Manchester United.

The Spaniard’s deal at Old Trafford is approaching its latter stages after a decade at Manchester United.

De Gea signed a mammoth deal in 2019 that made him both the club’s highest-paid player and the Premier League’s top earner on £375,000 per week. However, at 32, the Spaniard accepts he can no longer command that figure but still wants an amount that reflects his worth.

The player wants to remain at United though and Ten Hag is in support as well as he continues to reshape the club’s dressing room. De Gea recently spoke to the Manchester Evening News on his future: “Yeah, I’m very relaxed. [I] Just focus on training, perform as best as I can. But, for sure, it’s going to end in a good way.”

He also revealed his plan to see out his playing days in Manchester, adding: “I was saying this is my club. I’ve been here many, many years and it’s a huge honour to be here and I’m so happy here.”
