Ramon’s late goal delays Barcelona’s title celebrations

Jacobo Ramon’s stoppage-time strike gave Real Madrid a dramatic 2-1 victory over Mallorca at the Santiago Bernabeu, postponing Barcelona’s La Liga title party by at least one more day.

Hansi Flick’s squad were moments from celebrating without even stepping onto the field, but Ramon’s close-range finish in the dying seconds kept the title race mathematically alive. Barcelona now require only a draw in their next match against Espanyol on Thursday at 20:30 BST to be crowned champions.

Mbappe responds after Mallorca shock

Mallorca stunned the home crowd when Martin Valjent sent a precise low shot past the goalkeeper to put the visitors ahead. Despite having the better of possession and opportunities, Real Madrid failed to convert numerous chances early on.

Eventually, Kylian Mbappe levelled the score with a composed finish into the far corner, giving the home side hope as they chased a comeback.

After continued pressure and missed opportunities, Madrid finally capitalised when Ramon punished defensive errors with a volley that sealed the result.

Barcelona remain clear favorite

Barcelona still lead the standings by four points and hold an additional game in hand. Their recent 4-3 victory over Real Madrid in El Clasico placed them firmly in control of the title race.

The Catalan club have had the better of their rivals this season, including triumphs in both the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup finals.

Ancelotti approaches final weeks in charge

With his departure approaching, Carlo Ancelotti looks set to end his tenure at Real Madrid without a major title this season. The Italian will begin managing Brazil after La Liga concludes, and former midfielder Xabi Alonso is widely expected to take over by the time the FIFA Club World Cup begins in June.

Ancelotti holds the record for the most trophies won by a Real Madrid manager, collecting 15, including multiple Champions League and domestic league successes. His most recent win came last December, when Madrid defeated Pachuca in the Intercontinental Cup final in Qatar – an achievement that holds less prestige at a club known for targeting the game’s top honors.

After the final whistle, Ancelotti expressed satisfaction with the team’s determination: “The players showed spirit, worked hard, and gave everything. We deserved to win. It was a tough beginning but we finished strongly.”
