PSV stun Juventus with extra-time comeback to reach last 16

PSV Eindhoven delivered an inspired display to overturn their first-leg deficit and eliminate Juventus, securing a place in the Champions League last 16 with a dramatic extra-time victory.

The Dutch side had suffered a 2-1 defeat in Turin but produced an energetic performance on home soil to turn the tie around in a thrilling contest. Goals from Ivan Perisic and Ismael Saibari brought them level on aggregate, setting the stage for Ryan Flamingo to score the decisive goal in extra time.

With this victory, PSV advance to the next round, where they will meet either Arsenal or Inter Milan. The draw is scheduled for 11:00 GMT on Friday.

Early dominance and a stunning response

From the opening whistle, PSV pressed high and put Juventus under pressure, with Noa Lang playing a key role in their early attacking moves. The winger’s creativity and pace on the left flank carved out chances, and he played a crucial role in breaking the deadlock.

Lang burst forward from midfield, weaving past defenders before slipping a precise pass to Perisic, who fired a low shot into the bottom corner to give the hosts the lead. PSV continued to push forward, with Perisic narrowly missing another chance and Luuk de Jong seeing his header cleared off the line.

Juventus, however, responded with a spectacular goal from Timothy Weah. The winger pounced on a loose clearance from a corner and unleashed a powerful strike, restoring their aggregate advantage.

Decisive extra-time drama

PSV refused to give up and found a crucial equalizer when Saibari capitalized on a loose ball in the six-yard area, bundling it into the net after De Jong’s effort was blocked. Despite both teams creating opportunities, the match remained level at 3-3 on aggregate at the end of normal time.

The hosts carried their momentum into extra time, pushing forward with renewed energy. Their persistence paid off when Johan Bakayoko whipped in a low cross that Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio failed to deal with, allowing defender Flamingo to pounce and poke home the winner from close range.

Juventus fought desperately to respond, with Kenan Yildiz striking the post late on, but they could not find an equalizer. The defeat marks the first time in their history that they have failed to progress in a Champions League knockout tie after winning the opening leg.

PSV’s comeback secures their place among Europe’s elite, as they now await their opponent in the next round.
