Paris Saint-Germain are desperate to keep Kylian Mbappe at the club and have devised a three-point plan to that effect, per latest reports.
Kylian Mbappe signed for PSG on loan in 2017 and on a permanent deal in 2018 and in that time, has morphed into the best player in the world behind Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
His contract at the club, however, is in its final few months and the 23-year-old is seeking a move to Real Madrid, his dream club, at the end of his contract this season.
PSG fought off Madrid’s interest last season to keep the striker and allow him finish his current contract, while trying to get him to extend it. It has all been for naught as Mbappe and his entourage have calmly set aside every contract offer laid before them by PSG.
Madrid have also been reported to be progressing in their contract discussions with Mbappe which is said to be in the region of €100 – €150 million. But in March, Mbappe was understood to be slowing down the talks with Madrid.
And speaking earlier this month, the World Cup winner insisted he was not in a hurry as his PSG contract enters its final stages. “I haven’t decided about my future yet,” said the 2018 Kopa Trophy winner.
“I’m cool. I want to take my time because I don’t want to get it wrong.
“I am thinking about it because there are new elements—lots of things, new parameters.
“[There are] a lot of parameters to take in consideration.
“I’m trying to figure it out with my family so I take the right decision.”
PSG’s three-point plan to keep Mbappe
The Parisiens have picked up on Mbappe’s hesitation and have made a barrage of offers to the player and his entourage, many of which involve huge financial compensations.
The club offered Mbappe a €150 million sign-on bonus and a new bumper salary package of €25 million-per-annum minus bonuses. Now, they have come up with another strategy to convince the player to remain at Parc De Princes.
French news outlet Le Parisien reports that the Ligue 1 giants will sell Neymar as part of its three point-strategy to keep Mbappe. This move, Le Parisien reports, is to assure Mbappe that he will be their talisman and main attraction in the coming seasons.
PSG will also sign players to build a team around Mbappe in order for the 23-year-old to be convinced of their sporting project. The club have already identified a number of players with respect to this vision, one of them being another Madrid target, AS Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni.
Thirdly, PSG will make Mbappe one of the team’s captains or could even offer him the captaincy outright. This would see Marquinhos lose his authority in the squad just for Mbappe to remain at the club.
It remains to be seen the level of success PSG can achieve with these plans, with Madrid breathing down Mbappe’s neck.
