PSG Owes Mbappé €100m in Wages and Bonuses

Kylian Mbappé, aged 25, has made a bold move through his legal representatives against Paris Saint-Germain, his current employer until July 1, 2024. According to a report by L’Equipe, Mbappé has demanded approximately €100 million in unpaid wages and bonuses. Despite being present in Leipzig to support his French teammates at the Euros, and with Real Madrid confirming his future transfer, Mbappé is embroiled in unresolved financial matters with PSG.

Unpaid Wages and Bonuses

PSG allegedly owes Mbappé wages for the months of April and May, as well as certain bonuses, including a loyalty bonus. There are indications that PSG may not intend to pay his final salary for June. Mbappé’s legal team has invoked Article 259 of the Ligue de Football Professionnel’s charter, which stipulates that salaries must be disbursed by clubs to their players under contract no later than the last day of each month, as per standard legal conditions.

Negotiations between PSG’s legal representatives and Mbappé’s counselors have reportedly hit an impasse regarding the resolution of Mbappé’s financial claims. Last summer, Mbappé was temporarily excluded from PSG’s senior squad until reports emerged that he had allegedly agreed to forego a portion of his €55 million wages under specific conditions. However, this arrangement was purportedly verbal and lacked a formal contract, leading Mbappé and his legal team to contest its validity. Furthermore, it is suggested that this verbal agreement became irrelevant when Mbappé’s playing time diminished significantly after PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi learned of Mbappé’s intention to leave the club as a free agent.

Legal Standoff

Mbappé remains resolute in his stance not to waive the wages he believes PSG owes him. The reigning Ligue 1 champions have until June 30 to settle the financial dispute with Mbappé. A spokesperson confirmed ongoing negotiations between PSG and Mbappé’s legal team, indicating that efforts are being made to resolve the issue amicably before the deadline.
