The Kylian Mbappe transfer saga continues and the latest developing story is that Paris Saint-Germain is expecting bids from Liverpool and Real Madrid.
The 24-year-old striker has taken over the transfer news scene with his letter to the club indicating his decision to leave for free in 2024 and not trigger an extension until 2025 according to the terms of the renewal deal he signed in 2022.
All parties involved – PSG and Real Madrid mostly – have been at loggerheads since then. The Parisiens believe that their gem has agreed to a pre-contract with the Florentino Perez-led team and is plotting to join them ahead of the 2024/25 season. Madrid insist that this is not the case while hovering around the player and the club.
A number of clubs have tried to get Mbappe to sign with them this summer, with the target being to get the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner don their colours for the 2023/24 season alone before he heads to Real Madrid.
Saudi Arabian team Al-Hilal dominated the news for offering the forward a €700 million salary and offering PSG a €300 million salary. Mbappe cut off any discussions between his entourage, PSG and the club, with his focus being European football.
Now, Liverpool are plotting a move to sign Mbappe on loan for the 2023/24 season before he officially leaves for Madrid.
The Santiago Bernabeu outfit is aware of this and PSG expect them to table a bid for Mbappe soon. Sources claim, however, that PSG are already aware of the kind of bid that the 14-time UEFA Champions League winners will be bringing to their table. They claim it will be an insulting bid; one that will be made to fulfil all obligations that involve them trying to sign Mbappe this season.
Whatever the outcome of it all, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has made it clear that Mbappe will either stay and renew or be sold this season for nothing less than €200 million.
“My position is very clear. I don’t want to repeat it every time: if Kylian wants to stay, we want him to stay. But he needs to sign a new contract,” Al-Khelaifi said recently. “We don’t want to lose the best player in the world for free, we can’t do that.
“This is a French club. He said he would never leave for free. If he changes his mind today, it’s not my fault. We don’t want to lose the best player in the world for free, that’s very clear.”
