Paris Saint-Germain have made it clear that their commitment to remaining at the Parc des Princes is non-negotiable as long as the current Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, is in office. Club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has stated publicly that if the club is unable to purchase the Parc from the city, they will be forced to explore alternative locations to construct a new stadium.
Weighing New Options Amid Political Uncertainty
The club is considering waiting until after the 2026 mayoral elections, hoping for a change in leadership that might be more amenable to selling the stadium. L’Équipe reports that there is a faction within PSG advocating for this wait-and-see approach in anticipation of Hidalgo potentially being ousted from office. Until then, PSG remains proactive in exploring other possible sites for their new stadium.
Potential New Site at Saint-Cloud Racecourse
Among the potential locations under consideration is the Saint-Cloud racecourse. PSG have been in discussions with France Galop and the mayor of Saint-Cloud, Éric Berdoati, regarding this option. The site offers several advantages, such as its proximity to Paris, being within 10 kilometers of the Parc des Princes, and its visibility of the Eiffel Tower—a landmark that the club’s owners have frequently utilized for promotional purposes since acquiring PSG in 2011.
However, the Saint-Cloud site presents some challenges. Building a new 60,000-seat stadium would require significant upgrades to the public transport system, necessitating more frequent bus and train services to manage the increased traffic on match days. This would involve changes to the local urban planning framework. Additionally, the Saint-Cloud racecourse is a historically protected area, and France Galop, which owns the racecourse, is reportedly not inclined to sell the property. Despite these hurdles, PSG continues to assess various sites to find the most suitable location for their new stadium.
PSG and France Galop have yet to provide further comments on the matter, with the club confirming only that their analysis of different locations is ongoing as they seek the optimal solution for their future home.
