Potter admits Chelsea are going through a crisis

Graham Potter has agreed that Chelsea are going through a torrid moment after a series of losses. The Blues lost to Manchester City twice in less than a week.

Since the 19th of October, Chelsea have only won one game – a 2-0 victory over Bournemouth. The win came two days after Christmas. Things are not going well at Chelsea, and the Blues have to take drastic action. They have wobbled from one poor performance to another and have become humiliating to their fans.

No one can tell, but the chances of this persisting under Roman Abramovich are unlikely, as the Russian oligarch would have taken measures to rein in the problem. Perhaps Graham Potter is out of his depth, with the peak of his career being his spell at Brighton & Hove Albion.

Chelsea played twice against Manchester City in less than a week and lost both games without scoring a goal. It is a testament to the gulf between both sides, as Chelsea have plenty of work to do. Potter can blame injuries, but his tactical nous is under scrutiny. The former Brighton boss admits that Chelsea is going through a bad patch.

Potter admits to the decay in Chelsea

Chelsea were thoroughly embarrassed at the Etihad on Sunday evening. Manchester City gave the Blues a lesson not received in a long while. It was a one-sided affair as Chelsea rarely put the Citizens under pressure in a game that ended 4-0. It was a game that exposed the problems at Chelsea and left Potter mulling over how to fix them.

The Chelsea manager admitted after the game that Chelsea was going through a torrid patch but called on everyone to stick together as he looked ahead to the challenges to come.

Potter confessed that the game became an arduous assignment early on, but his wards gave a solid account of themselves against the league champions.

Potter admitted that his side was second best to a fantastic side. He continued that apart from the class disparity, his side was not in a good place currently.

Potter pointed out the inability of his side to attack the Man City back line well enough. He lauded the Citizens for their quality, saying they could stop the opposition from doing what they had to do.

How it went down

Manchester City put up a solid performance against Chelsea to beat the Blues for the second time in less than a week. There were expectations that Chelsea would react after the first loss, but the result was worse than the first encounter. Graham Potter seems powerless to rein in the problems at Stamford Bridge.

Man City opened the scores early on with a fantastic free-kick in the first half. Julian Alvarez doubled the advantage before the break via a penalty to leave Chelsea chasing the game. The third goal came in the 38th minute through Phil Foden off a Kyle Walker assist. Chelsea went into the break three goals down, leaving them with a mountain to climb.

Chelsea could not muster a response in the second half, with Man City compounding their woes with a fourth goal. Mahrez completed the rout with another penalty that Potter described as curious.

Speaking on injuries in his side, Potter said Christian Pulisic, Raheem Sterling, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang were not fit for the game.
