Postecoglou in talks with LAFC after Cherundolo exit confirmed

Los Angeles FC are considering Ange Postecoglou as a potential replacement for head coach Steve Cherundolo, who will depart at the conclusion of the Major League Soccer season. Cherundolo is set to return to Germany, where he spent his playing days.

The MLS campaign concludes in October, and LAFC currently sit in sixth position in the Western Conference. The top nine clubs from each conference advance to the postseason.

Former Tottenham boss out after European success

Postecoglou was dismissed by Tottenham Hotspur just over two weeks after guiding the club to a 1-0 triumph over Manchester United in the Europa League final, held in Bilbao. The win ended Spurs’ 17-year wait for a major title.

Despite the European glory, the club’s poor domestic results ultimately led to his departure. Tottenham finished 17th in the Premier League standings, prompting the board to act. Former Brentford manager Thomas Frank has since taken over the reins in North London.

Interest from the Middle East also growing

In addition to LAFC’s interest, Postecoglou has been mentioned in connection with a move to the Saudi Pro League. Al Ahli, who recently captured the Asian Champions League crown, have been linked with the Australian coach.

The Saudi club is currently managed by Matthias Jaissle, who took charge in July 2023.
