Pochettino rates Caicedo debut for Chelsea and verdict after defeat to West Ham

Despite falling to his first defeat as Chelsea boss, Mauricio Pochettino insists he remains pleased about his side’s performance in their opening two games, saying it is only a matter of time before the positive results begin to follow.

The Blues dominated most of the game against West Ham United and enjoyed a good amount of possession, but were unable to convert that into points as they were made to pay for a penalty miss and several misses.

Even with one man down, West Ham managed to claim a convincing 3-1 win that leaves Chelsea still searching for their first three points of the camapaign.

Mauricio Pochettino also shared his thoughts on Moises Caicedo’s Chelsea debut after he gave away a penalty in a 3-1 loss at West Ham on Sunday.

Pochettino comments on Caicedo’s debut and Chelsea’ defeat

Asked about Caicedo giving away a penalty in his post-match comments, Chelsea head coach Pochettino said: “It was a very negative impact to the team.”

“We played well in the first half and then it was difficult in the second half, we didn’t find the right way to play and we did change the shape. We were rushing the decisions and pushing decisions to make chances and that happens as the team is new – I am sure we will start winning games.”

Asked more generally about Caicedo’s debut, Pochettino added: “He was telling us he was ready, I think 30 minutes is good for him, many positive things and he is maybe disappointed but we need to move on and he will be a good player for us.”

“I cannot change my speech after Liverpool we needed to believe in the process and we need to keep being clam and that is the process.”

Speaking on Chelsea’s defeat in general, he continued: “It’s a concern that the results haven’t followed the performance,’ admitted Pochettino. ‘But if we played bad but won the games I think we should be more worried because then it’s only time until you start to lose games and then you need to find a way to perform.”

“I prefer to start in this way, showing good performance, good attitude, because we dominated Liverpool and West Ham. I think the attitude is there, to get in the final third 50 times today shows the attitude is good and against Liverpool it was the same. That is the base for the future, with the quality we have in the squad it is only time until we start to find the best balance and we start to score goals and win games.”
