Pochettino backs Chelsea to go all the way in FA Cup

Mauricio Pochettino says it is an incredible accomplishment for Chelsea to reach the Carabao Cup final after the blues came back from the first leg 1-0 deficit at Stamford Bridge. He also reiterated that he is eager to finish the job at Wembley next month.

Chelsea completely overcame their 1-0 loss in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final at Middlesbrough on Tuesday night at Stamford Bridge, hammering their opponents 6-1 in west London.

With our place now secured at Wembley, Mauricio Pochettino explained why he believes this could be a key moment in his team’s development, but was careful to underline we need to not let this opportunity for his first silverware in England slip through our fingers when we take on Liverpool or Fulham on 25 February.

Now that their spot at Wembley has been secured, Mauricio Pochettino discussed why he thinks this could be a turning point in his team’s growth. However, he cautioned that they must make sure they don’t let this chance to win his first trophy in England pass by when Chelsea play either Fulham or Liverpool on February 25.

“In some points it’s an amazing achievement because it was an objective when we started, because we are not in Europe. To build a team from nearly zero, it was an objective to be at Wembley in February”, said Pochettino.

“That job is done but now it’s about winning the final. I am so happy. But on the other side it looks like it is not so important when Chelsea are out of the Champions League and the Premier League title race. It’s important for the club, it’s important for us and important for this process to build a new team.”

“It’s an important step for us for the confidence and belief in ourselves. That’s going to help because of the motivation and players who are close to returning to the team, they are going to want to come back to training tomorrow because of the final.”

“I am desperate to win a title here. We won three trophies in Paris and we want to win one here. I am desperate to win trophies, of course.”

Pochettino also talked about the reasons behind the Blues’ recent improvement.

“The results are good, we are improving since the beginning of the season. In all the circumstances we need to be happy because we are competing with a lot of things going on again and to reach the final was the first objective from the beginning.”

“We need to congratulate the players because they were amazing. We are improving because we are believing, we never give up, don’t listen too much to what people say when we don’t win or don’t score goals, like what happened after the first leg against Middlesbrough.”

“The most important thing is keeping the focus, seeing reality in the way we need to see the reality and see the difference between what is Chelsea and what is the team we are building. They are two different things. Our challenge is the history of Chelsea, the capacity to win titles, and build a team that can match the mentality of this club.”

“What has been happening since the beginning of the season, even when we have the full squad fit, it is difficult to win. When you have 11 or 12 players always out, it is not easy to compete from one day to another and try to win.”

“Now on Friday we play in the FA Cup against a Premier League team in Aston Villa and we need to recover the players. Tomorrow we are going to be back on the training ground trying to build for the game on Friday.”
