Joao Cancelo is set to leave Manchester City following a clash with manager Pep Guardiola. Reports suggest Bayern Munich have signed the full-back on loan, with the option of a permanent sale as well.
Manchester City are perhaps not at their best this season. The club has endured crashing out of the Carabao Cup and is some distance behind Arsenal on the Premier League log. The dominance of Guardiola in England seems to be waning, but the Spanish manager remains resolute in his desires for his team.
In the last five seasons, Manchester City have won the league four times, with the Citizens chasing a third league title in a row. However, things may be busting at the seams this time, with Guardiola struggling to get his players playing at their peak. Man City have struggled with injuries and loss of form but has managed to remain in the hunt for the league title.
Pep Guardiola has endured battles with his players and came out on top, as the clubs he managed have always shown implicit confidence in his abilities. He has clashed with some of the biggest names in the game. The former Barcelona manager may be losing his marbles as he has a bust-up with Joao Cancelo and has asked the Portuguese full-back to leave the club.
Guardiola shows Cancelo the door
Guardiola has clashed with some top players in his managerial career but has always had support from the club. At Barcelona, he was at loggerheads with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and later Yaya Toure.
Guardiola continued his grudge against the Ivorian upon his arrival at Manchester City. Joe Hart is another player he treated badly. With all these incidents, no one believes he does not get along with players.
Cancelo has joined the list of players to feel the wrath of the bald one. Recent reports suggest Guardiola and Cancelo had a bust-up, and Guardiola wielded his powers again by telling the Portugal international he could leave the club. Cancelo is on the verge of a move away from the Premier League.
Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich have shown interest in the Portugal international. Following the bust-up with Guardiola, Cancelo has now joined the Bavarians on a season-long loan move. The Bundesliga giants reportedly have a £61.5m buy option.
A good record for Cancelo at Man City
Cancelo had a bust-up with Guardiola at the Etihad. The Portuguese full-back joined Man City in 2019 and won back-to-back Premier League titles, plus the Carabao Cup. He has also been an integral part of Guardiola’s side. The defender sees his stay at the Etihad brought to a halt by a moment of hotheadedness.
The 28-year-old defender fell out of favour after his return from the World Cup in Qatar. He has started just three of Man City’s last ten matches and is off to Germany.
The Daily Mail reports that the bust-up with his manager came due to his lack of game time.
The clash between Cancelo and Guardiola occurred at the training ground, with Cancelo believed to have become disruptive.
It led to a deterioration in the relationship between the pair, with the full-back expressing his displeasure at not being named in the starting XI for City’s FA Cup win over Arsenal on Friday.
With Nathan Ake and Rico Lewis impressing Guardiola, the former Bayern Munich manager is keen to let Cancelo leave.
Cancelo moved to City from Juventus in a £60m deal in 2019 and has a contract with the Etihad side till 2027. He has made 154 appearances for the club, registering nine goals and 22 assists.
