Olmo’s quick strike helps Barcelona edge Mallorca

Dani Olmo netted the winner just 41 seconds into the second half as Barcelona outclassed Mallorca to strengthen their grip on the La Liga summit.

Despite firing 24 attempts before the break, the Catalan side couldn’t find a breakthrough in a first half filled with missed chances. Olmo finally ended the deadlock with a composed left-footed finish shortly after the restart, bringing relief to the home crowd at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.

The Spain international’s goal came after a dominant but frustrating opening period, during which Barcelona overwhelmed the visitors with relentless attacking pressure.

Roman shines in a one-sided contest

Mallorca goalkeeper Leo Roman delivered an exceptional performance, pulling off 11 saves to keep the scoreline respectable. Before the interval, he denied both Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres with outstanding stops, while a remarkable sequence of defending saw Mallorca repel four close-range efforts within 15 frantic seconds.

The visiting side struggled for possession, registering just 22% in the opening 45 minutes. Nonetheless, they managed to exploit Barcelona’s high line on three occasions, only to be flagged offside each time.

Mallorca failed to muster a single shot on target across the 90 minutes, while Barcelona racked up a staggering 40 attempts – the highest tally by any side in the league this season.

Barcelona rotate ahead of Cup final

Hansi Flick made seven changes to his lineup ahead of the upcoming Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid. After taking the lead, he introduced Raphinha and Fermin Lopez in pursuit of a second goal, though Roman’s heroics kept the margin at one.

Despite the narrow scoreline, Barcelona extended their lead in the standings to seven points, with Real Madrid set to face Getafe on Wednesday. Mallorca, meanwhile, remain seventh on 44 points, just one clear of Celta Vigo, who have a game in hand.
