Newcastle United have agreed on terms with Real Sociedad for their Swedish striker Alexander Isak. The Spanish club have accepted an offer of around €70m for the striker.
The summer transfer window is about to close, with many clubs yet to conclude their business. While Manchester United and Chelsea are struggling to nail their targets, Newcastle United have finally joined the party and agreed to their first deal of the summer.
Following the takeover of Newcastle United last season, the club is allegedly the richest in the world, but the new football giants have yet to flex their financial muscles in the market. While Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City are the current top dogs of football, Newcastle have started announcing their arrival on the scene.
It has been a quiet summer for the Magpies, but it has not stopped them from putting up a solid performance this season.
The highlight of their season is the 3-3 draw against Manchester City, but they are keen to bolster their attack and have agreed to a deal for Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak.
Newcastle agree record deal for Isak.
Newcastle have been in the market for a striker and has finally landed one. According to 90min, the Magpies have agreed to a club record deal with Real Sociedad for Alexander Isak.
The Swedish striker has been a target for Newcastle, as reported by 90min in July. Real Sociedad were unwilling to play ball with Newcastle unless they met their valuation of the player.
The Magpies were intent on getting their man and have seen a much-improved offer for the Swedish striker accepted by Sociedad. Newcastle made Real Sociedad an offer worth €70m (£59m) plus €5m in add-ons, including a 10% sell-on fee. The Spanish side have accepted the offer from Newcastle.
Newcastle did not meet the release clause of €90m (£76m) included in the contract Isak signed in 2021. Regardless. Real Sociedad feels the latest offer was too good to let go and agreed to the deal.
Project Isak – a long time in the works
The plan for a new striker at Newcastle has long been in the works. The Magpies had eyes on Isak but were on a stringent budget. They eventually shoved it aside and moved for their man.
Callum Wilson has been the Magpies number nine and started the season in good form, but the striker is prone to injuries that have been a source of concern for the club. The Englishman has already picked up a hamstring injury, and the club hopes he will not be on the sideline for too long. Wilson will now have to compete with Isak for a starting spot.
Eddie Howe has always been fond of Alexander Isak and wanted to sign the Swedish player after he took over last season. The Newcastle manager has sanctioned the move for the Swedish striker as they continue to push for a good campaign.
The Magpies hope to finalize the move for Isak before the weekend. They are also looking to sign a winger and a creative midfielder.
