New Stadium for Inter and Milan Could Open by 2030

Inter president Beppe Marotta has revealed that progress is being made on the long-debated new stadium project, which could commence construction in 2027. If everything proceeds without delays, the venue could be ready for its grand opening in 2030. The initiative, which has been in discussion for nearly a decade, aims to replace the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, commonly known as San Siro.

For years, both Inter and AC Milan faced challenges in securing approval for a new arena, initially considering alternative locations outside Milan. However, local authorities have now revisited the idea of developing the current San Siro area, located within the city.

Clubs Present Proposal for San Siro Purchase

Speaking at an Inter Club event, Marotta confirmed that the two clubs recently submitted an offer to acquire the San Siro site from the local government. “About 15 days ago, Milan and we presented a bid to purchase the stadium and surrounding land,” he explained. “Now, a public tender will determine if other parties are interested.”

Marotta emphasized that the goal is to secure ownership of the area, a key step in making the project feasible. While bureaucratic hurdles remain, both clubs are hopeful that construction can proceed within the outlined timeframe.

Balancing Tradition with Modern Needs

Despite the iconic status of San Siro, which has hosted historic moments for both clubs, Marotta believes a state-of-the-art facility is necessary for the future. “San Siro has been a place of great memories, including Inter’s European Cup victory in 1965,” he said. “However, we must look ahead and create a modern stadium.”

The decision to build a new venue stems from the logistical difficulties of renovating San Siro while both teams continue to play there. The clubs argue that major structural changes would be too disruptive to their schedules, making new construction the most viable option.

As discussions progress, optimism remains high that this long-awaited project will finally come to fruition.
