New England Revolution confirm the transfer of Matt Turner to Arsenal.

American Major League Soccer side, New England Revolution have confirmed the signing of the goalkeeper Matt Turner by Arsenal.

The news was made public on Friday but Arsenal have not yet announced the signing. However, the MLS club have come out to officially confirm that Matt Turner will be leaving the club for Arsenal in the summer.

The Gunners had been heavily linked with the highly-rated American shotstopper in January but nothing seemed to materialise from the move.

However, both clubs continued discussions with the European window not affecting the American transfer dynamics. Arsenal completed the paperwork for Turner’s signing early this week and struck a deal to have the 27-year-old join them in the summer.

New England Revolution confirmed the move on their official club website.

“The New England Revolution have agreed to terms for goalkeeper Matt Turner to join Arsenal of the English Premier League in a summer transfer for an undisclosed fee pending completion of a medical.

“Turner, the 2021 Allstate MLS Goalkeeper of the Year, is expected to join Arsenal in late June 2022.”

The undisclosed fee which the Gunners and the New England Revolution agreed for Turner is reported to be £7.5 million with additional fees.

Turner joined New England Revolution in 2016 from Jersey Express. He has played 13 times for the United States Men’s National Team including all six of their 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup games.

He will be joining Arsenal as an understudy to Aaron Ramsdale as Bernd Leno is expected to depart the club at the end of the season.
