Napoli secured a narrow 1-0 win on the road against Lecce, bringing them within touching distance of the Serie A title. With only three games left in the season, Luciano Spalletti’s men now need just seven more points to officially clinch the Scudetto.
Despite Napoli’s commanding lead, Inter remain determined to finish strong. “We want to stay in the race and aim for victory tonight, even if our fate no longer lies in our hands,” said Inter assistant coach Massimiliano Farris following the Partenopei’s win.
Inter managing injuries ahead of European clash
Farris acknowledged the challenges the team has faced in domestic competition, noting that their Champions League campaign has taken a toll on their league form. “We’ve paid the price in Serie A due to our European fixtures. Right now, the focus is on these 90 minutes. After that, we’ll turn our attention to Barcelona,” he said.
He also emphasized the importance of managing the squad’s physical condition. “Some players are returning from injury, and we need to conserve energy where we can.”
Lautaro Martinez’s fitness remains under close observation ahead of the Champions League semi-final second leg. While his muscular issue is not considered severe, his participation is still uncertain. “There’s no tear, just a strain. He’ll do everything possible to be ready,” Farris noted, adding that daily evaluations will determine his availability. “It’s not about being hopeful or pessimistic—we’ll just monitor his recovery.”
Fiorentina set to extend comuzzo’s deal
Meanwhile, Fiorentina are reportedly finalizing terms on a contract renewal for young defender Pietro Comuzzo. Currently under contract until 2028, the extension would see him tied to the club until 2030, along with a significant salary increase from his existing €500,000 per season.
Italy boss Luciano Spalletti recently praised Comuzzo during a press conference tied to Italy’s upcoming Nations League matches, which marked the player’s first senior national team call-up. “Pietro is a focused, physical defender with strong build-up play and a mature presence for his age,” Spalletti stated. “We must allow his talent to grow without restricting it. Talent isn’t limited to attackers—defenders can have it too.”
Spalletti also commented on the selection choices for the national squad. “We’ve called up players who deserve the opportunity, like Comuzzo and Savona. One plays for Fiorentina, a team near the top of the league, and the other for Juventus. These selections are based on merit, not experimentation.”
