Mourinho mulling over Chelsea return

José Mourinho’s Chelsea return is seen as a pipe dream by many who are following the Chelsea dilemma, but a report has claimed that the veteran manager is considering making it a reality.

Earlier in the week, the cost of sacking Mauricio Pochettino as manager of the Blues was revealed. Todd Boehly and his co-administrators would have to fork out around £10 million in severance fees for the 51-year-old and his staff.

While that money does not scratch the surface of the club’s deep pockets, the true cost is their risk of breaching more Premier League Financial Fair Play rules on Profitability and Sustainability.

The six-time English top flight champions are one of the teams under scrutiny for FFP breaches. The punishment for them, if found guilty, could be as “little” as points deduction and as “heavy” as league expulsion.

Chelsea are currently running a cost-benefit analysis of keeping Pochettino at the club. In that same vein, some of the leading figures have joined a large section of the club’s fans to clamor for the return of José Mourinho, who has had two stints in the past as the club’s manager.

Mourinho was recently sacked by AS Roma in the Italian Serie A for poor results. His incredible CV means he cannot stay unemployed for long except he chooses to.

There have been reports about the veteran manager gearing up to return to the dugout. Some claim he is eyeing a Manchester United return. Fresh reports now claim he is eyeing a Chelsea return.

The manager’s family still lives in London and outside of his sentimental attachment to Chelsea, they are his main reason for wanting to be in Chelsea’s dugout for a third spell.

His first two spells saw English football fans introduced to the show business side of football. With his media quips and his running battles with other managers, coupled with his football tactics which has produced a record no other team has been unable to touch to date, the 61-year-old has immortalized himself in Chelsea’s history, regardless of how he left the club in the past.

“Chelsea will always be Chelsea”, he said in m interview last summer. “Chelsea will always be big and my house will always be 200 meters away from the stadium so I want to keep listening to the sound of happiness and success. I’m pretty sure it’s going to be like that.”

“Of course, my English connection is Chelsea. That’s the way I see things, as a Chelsea man after two periods of Chelsea and six years.”
