Mohamed Salah’s real feelings revealed amid contract standoff with Liverpool

Sources around Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah are feeding the media with his feelings towards the Liverpool contract situation, which is understood to be frustration.

Salah is currently the most in-form player in the Premier League and has been one of the league’s best players in the last five seasons. He has not dropped his level at any point, even currently leading Liverpool’s charge to reclaim the Premier League title from Manchester City.

However, the Reds seem to not be interested in keeping him beyond the ongoing season even though the Egypt international has made it clear that he would like to continue at Anfield. Still, they maintain that discussions with Salah have been positive and are still ongoing. According to The Athletic, Salah is unconvinced that the club will match his expectations, which he believes should reflect his status as one of the world’s best footballers.

His age, however, seems to be the stumbling block as Liverpool do not want to offer a 32-year-old £350,000-a-week in basic salary, which is the deal he signed in 2022. According to reports, any new deal is likely to result in a pay cut, which may not be well received by the forward.

He is free to enter negotiations with any club in January and media reports claim that Paris Saint-Germain have contacted his entourage to that effect. French publication L’Equipe, claims that these reports are false, however.

PSG are happy with their new approach of favouring a collective over superstars, according to L’Equipe. This has seen Neymar and Kylian Mbappe leave the Parc des Princes over the last two summer windows, with young and hungry players brought in.

Meanwhile, Arsenal icon Freddie Ljungberg, talking on Swedish TV, randed the whole contract situation as bullsh*t, saying: “I think that it is very disrespectful on the part of the club. Not as Jamie Carragher is trying to make it out to be – that it is Mo Salah who is disrespectful.

“Sorry, but that’s bull****. If you have a player of that calibre as Salah, if you don’t want to extend with him and he wants to leave – then tell him.

“We will show you respect, you are too old and want too much. Financially, it doesn’t work for us. Salah is saying this because he wants to put pressure on the club to get a new contract. He wants to stay when he does that.”
