Lionel Messi has shared a family sorrow with the world via his friend, comedian Migue Granados, who interviewed him for OLGA TV.
Granados interviewed Messi for the broadcast channel and a lot of things were brought to light about the player’s departure from Barcelona, his move to Paris Saint-Germain and his eventual move to Inter Miami in the United States of America.
Messi, 36, is currently a franchise player in the North American football league, Major League Soccer (MLS) with Inter Miami, which is partly owned by David Beckham. The former Real Madrid midfielder has been trying to get the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner to choose MLS as an option if the time ever came to leave Barcelona. He succeeded thanks to ill feelings that Messi developed while playing in France with PSG.
It has been four months since the move that shook the world of football and it has also been four months of good tidings at the small Eastern Conference club. Messi has led them to their first-ever title and is their leading goalscorer after a few games. He is currently battling fitness issues and is recuperating in order to rejoin them as they look to make it into the MLS Playoffs for the season.
In the midst of his recovery, the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner found time to give an interview to OLGA TV thanks to the influence of his close friend, Granados. The comedian, while interviewing Messi, struck up a bond with Abu, the Messi family’s lesser-known canine companion. That was when he (Granados) inquired about Hulk, the Messi family’s popular canine companion.
Messi, his children, his wife and the big Bordeaux Mastiff have become an internet sensation in the past few years. The big mutt, scary as it looks, is part and parcel of the Messi family and is a friendly dog. However, Hulk is not with his family as old age has caught up with him.
The Bordeaux Mastiff breed has a life span of six to eight years and at seven, Hulk is considered an old dog. His health is failing and he is unable to travel around as he used to. Messi revealed to Granados that his family had to take the harsh decision to leave the dog behind in Barcelona while they travelled with Abu to Miami.
Granados was speaking after the interview at another interview where he spoke about speaking with Messi when he revealed the Messi family’s sorrow. “I asked him where that bull [Hulk] was and he told me, ‘He’s in Barcelona, Hulk is there. He is a little old. So, we had to leave him in the house we have there in Barcelona’.”
The Messi family luckily have Abu, who is equally loved and cherished in the home. Messi, meanwhile is expected to return to action for Inter Miami at the US Open Cup final. The Fort Lauderdale-based side will face the Houston Dynamo for their second trophy since signing Messi, which will also be their second trophy ever if they clinch it.
The game will be played on Thursday 28 September 2023.
