Former Arsenal man Kevin Campbell has put forth Marcus Thuram as his own suggested replacement for Gabriel Jesus in the wake of the Brazilian’s injury.
With Arsenal in the transfer market searching for a replacement for Jesus whose surgery rules him out until February at the earliest, many have suggested replacements to the club.
Arsenal are already believed to be scouting a few players including Tammy Abraham from AS Roma, João Felix from Atlético de Madrid and Dušan Vlahovic from Juventus. Borussia Mönchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram has also been listed as a potential replacement.
As Arsenal evaluate their options, Campbell has stated that of all the reported options, he believes Thuram will be the best fit for the club.
The 25-year-old, son of legendary France defender Lilian Thuram, has developed into a great forward for Monchengladbach. His call-up to the French national team has been merited and his performances at the just concluded 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar showed the world what he is capable of.
Campbell believes that his quality will help Arsenal reach the next level. “I think he [Thuram] could be a good addition,” Campbell told the Highbury Squad podcast.
“Someone who can play across the front and someone who can give us a bit of physical presence up there because, although Eddie has been working on his physique and looks a bit stronger, [he is] somebody who is bigger, stronger, somebody more physical.
“That will keep defences on their toes, that’s for sure. It will be a fair deal because it will be pretty cheap because he has only got six months left on his contract, so it could be a good deal to be done.”
Campbell also suggested that Christian Pulisic would make a good addition to the squad and that Arsenal should have him on speed dial in case they cannot land Thuram or any of their other targets.
“If Arsenal have got a chance of signing him, for me, I would bring him in,” Campbell said of Pulisic, who, like Thuram, impressed at Qatar 2022.
Pulisic looks destined to leave Chelsea with no indication of him being in Graham Potter’s plans at Stamford Bridge. However, England may get to see more of him as the clubs reported to be interested in him are all in the Premier League.
Arsenal resume Premier League action against West Ham United on Boxing Day but before the London rivals clash at the Emirates, the Gunners will hope that they can sort out the issue of transfer targets or work out a way to make Eddie Nketiah and/or Gabriel Martinelli the focal point of their attacking play.
