Manchester United demand £34 million for Mason Greenwood

Following a positive loan spell with LaLiga side Getafe, Manchester United are demanding £34 million from any club that wants to sign the 22-year-old Mason Greenwood.

Greenwood and United are done with each other thanks to the former’s tanked reputation in English football. The club made a business decision to send him on loan at the beginning of the season to Getafe, who are all the better for it.

The former England youth international was a hit with the Madrid-based side. Thousands of jerseys bearing his number were sold and thousands came for his presentation. This did not stop other clubs from trying to pull him down, however, with some even going the extra mile to write to the LaLiga management to expel the Man United academy graduate from the league.

His compatriot, Jude Bellingham, famously called him a rapist after winning a tackle against when Real Madrid faced Getafe earlier in 2024. Greenwood has powered on, however, allowing his football to do the talking.

He has proven that despite the dark shadows surrounding him, his football talent is undeniable. He has five goals and five assists for Getafe in 21 league appearances this season. He has also been one of the most dangerous players in the league thanks to his ability on the wings.

Clubs are choosing to inquire about him as a result, leading to Manchester United placing a £34 million price tag on a player who was once considered their team’s future.

Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid are reportedly among the clubs that have approached Man United about Greenwood. The price tag is the Red Devils’ attempts to recoup some funds on a player who could have gone for free less than a year ago.

Greenwood has the chance to audition for Barcelona when he faces the Catalan giants with Getafe on Sunday. He would present a much cheaper option for their attacking issues, however, with the club’s prioritization of a DM, there may not be enough funds to initiate the transfer.

Reports from England also claim that despite the club attaching a price tag to Greenwood, Sir Jim Ratcliffe is yet to make up his mind on the player’s future.

The INEOS Group owner and controller of United’s football division is making big changes and plans for the next season. There are no guarantees that Greenwood will be a part of the squad next season, but there are also no guarantees that he will not be a part of the squad next season.

Whatever the outcome is, the player is sure to have a busy summer thanks to his exploits in LaLiga this season.
