Manchester City midfielder Rodri has promised his club’s fans that they will bounce back from the two points dropped away at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
The defending champions gave the world a show when they travelled to London to face a struggling Chelsea side. A 4-4 thriller was started by Erling Haaland before Thiago Silva equalised for Chelsea. Former City winger Raheem Sterling scored for Chelsea to give the hosts the lead before Manuel Akanji equalised for Chelsea on the stroke of half time to draw both teams level.
Citu started the second half brighter with Haaland bagging his brace a few minutes after the restart. Nicolas Jackson responded to draw Chelsea level. Rodri himself got in on the action to score a few minutes to the end of the game but in the 96th minute, former Chelsea midfielder Cole Palmer stole a point for the hosts.
Chelsea were delighted with the outcome of the game but City were not. This sentiment was reflected in Rodri’s post-match comments to the media, when asked for his thoughts on the outcome of the game.
“I’m thinking we were very close to winning the game. That’s the disappointment about this fact,” he said. “We have the feeling sometimes when we are not ourselves, that the result we want is to win, it’s important, but we know what we have to do to get it.
“At the same time, we keep pushing. Sometimes football is like this, we have to move forward. We have to correct some mistakes.
“As a team we support each other and we will move forward. We keep pushing.
“We go to the national team one point ahead, first in the league. We need to refresh and come back.”
Rodri also praised Chelsea for giving City a good game.
“We feel exhausted to be honest,” he declared. “These type of games, with that rhythm. we knew how tough it is to come here. The team they’ve built.
“They have great players, they signed massive players. The level of their team has risen. So we knew where we were coming. I don’t think it was one of our best performances today.
“We played how they wanted. They want to play quick transitions, they are a better team in them situations, they have faster players and stronger. We needed to try and play our game, we struggled.
“Big credit to the opponent of course, they have good players and they were at home and they made pressure.”
