Manchester City are set to make their first signing of the summer transfer window, with the Premier League champions ready offer for Savio, also known as Savinho, and present the player a five year deal, according to reports.
Pep Guardiola’s side is yet to make any transfer this window, but according to several reports and The Athletic, the Citizens are preparing to sign the 20-year-old winger from Troyes.
As to the report, Guardiola’s side has expressed to the young player that they intend to include him in their first-team plans for the upcoming season.
Savio’s journey to Manchester City
Coming from the Brazilian municipality of Sao Mateus, the winger attended the Atletico Miniero junior academy before to joining Troyes in 2022.
Savio was sent out on loan to play for PSV Eindhoven and Girona, so he hasn’t played in a competitive match for Troyes despite joining the French team.
He made 41 appearances for the La Liga team in the previous campaign, contributing 11 goals and 10 assists to help Girona finish third in the Spanish top division and guarantee a spot in Europe the following year.
Savio’s outstanding performance has paid off, as he was called up to the Brazil national team this year and made his Wembley debut against England.
He has since earned five caps, most notably for his goal in Saturday Brazil’s 4-1 Copa America triumph over Paraguay.
Troyes, on the other hand, have been relegated twice in the last two seasons, and after being demoted from Ligue 2 this summer, the team is now in the French third division.
Rumours have it that Man City has been mulling a move for the 20-year-old winger since December of last year. The club is reportedly interested in signing the player from the French team.
Additionally, back in 2022, Arsenal expressed interest in acquiring the Brazilian wonderkid.
James McAtee is reportedly set to travel with Guardiola’s team to the United States for their preseason trip, according to Mail Sport.
Chelsea and other Premier League opponents are reportedly interested in the midfield player; Enzo Maresca previously made an attempt to sign him when he was the manager at Leicester.
Savio to star for City next season?
City will be looking to bolster their ranks even further ahead of next season and Savio is now expected to add to the plethora of attacking options available to Pep Guardiola. He will definitely not be a starter but could play a vital role as a squad player next term.
