Rasmus Højlund could remain on the sidelines for longer following recent reports of his injury relapse.
The Danish striker joined Manchester United last season from Atalanta BC but had to miss the first five Premier League games due to a back problem. This time around, he spent pre-season with the club and got injured.
The injury, which was to his hamstring, was set to keep him out of the team for only three weeks which means he was expected to miss the opening three games of the season. This meant that fans expected to see him on the bench at least in their matchday 4 trip to St Mary’s Stadium to face Southampton. However, United have assessed the injury and it now looks like Højlund will remain on the sidelines.
The story is that the club do not want to rush the Danish international but some sources claim that he has relapsed and could spend a few more weeks on the sidelines. The reports claim, however, that he could still be involved in their trip to Southampton depending on what their assessment says.
In other news, United have once again hit a roadblock in their pursuit of Adrien Rabiot.
The midfielder has long been a target of the Red Devils and now that he is a free agent, it gives them the opportunity to sign him without any obligations to a club. They are exploring the possibility of including him in their squad this season but fresh reports are claiming that nothing will happen.
The reason is the same as the one that prevented the player from joining the club some years ago – his mother, Veronique – pricing him out of a move.
United minority owner Jim Ratcliffe has also told Victor Lindelof and Christian Eriksen to begin their search for new clubs. The idea is to sell them in 2025 whether in the January transfer window where they will be sold for nominal fees on in the winter where they will leave as free agents.
United have already signed enough centreback replacements to cover for Lindelof but Rabiot could come in for Eriksen if the move is allowed to happen by Veronique Rabiot.
INEOS is on a mission to stabilise and sanitise Manchester United and a number of players will be leaving the club in January or at the end of the current season. It is already established that manager Erik ten Hag is the one most in danger of losing his place at the club.
