Luke Shaw fires warning to his teammates, says Manchester United need to correct errors

Manchester United fullback Luke Shaw is not happy with how his team’s season is going despite being seventh on the table.

In fairness to Shaw, the Red Devils were in the top five until the second week of December. He was also unable to participate in most of their season to date thanks to injuries. He is now back and his return has strengthened the club enough for them to hold Liverpool to a goalless draw at Anfield last weekend.

As they prepare for their upcoming clash against West Ham United, Luke Shaw has made his concerns known to the rest of the team who stood in his place while he was injured.

The English fullback has categorically said that the club’s current state is unacceptable and that they need to stop making errors that can cost them games and points.

He started his comments by saying that their draw at Anfield should be the foundation of their football going forward. “That has to be the foundation now. Every game, whether it is at Anfield away or here (at Old Trafford), it always has to be the same and I think that is where we have been lacking I think is the consistency,” Shaw said.

Then he went on to point out his inconsistent they are while charging them – especially his defensive partners – to do better.

“I think one game we are excellent, for example the game against Chelsea here – we played a really good game, then we go and let ourselves down by playing Bournemouth here and losing 3-0,” he added.

“It’s not acceptable, we can’t accept that and it’s something that needs to be addressed and changed very quickly because we can’t keep doing this.”

Shaw is currently one of the most senior members of the club having joined United from Southampton in 2014. He will be hoping his fitness remains peak as they prepare for their upcoming clash against West Ham United, which could easily go sideways.

Speaking about the Liverpool result, Shaw said: “Really important [to get a clean sheet], especially with the results we’ve been having recently conceding a lot of goals.”

“To go there, especially away at Anfield, what happened last year there – we all remembered that very well. It was one of the worst days in my footballing career. And for all of us.”

“I think it was definitely showing a step in the right direction, still obviously little things we can do better on when we have the ball, but I think as a defensive block, a defensive unit, I think that is the foundations we need to approach every game with, exactly how we defended in that game.”
