Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez scores FOUR second-half goals to silence doubters

Darwin Nunez put up a fantastic second-half display and scored four goals to silence his doubters. The Uruguayan arrived at Liverpool for a transfer fee rising to £85 million.

The Uruguayan carries a heavy weight following his arrival at Liverpool. He was the latest addition to a frontline that consisted of Sadio Mane, Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz. Nunez was to fill a hole following the departure of Mane to Bayern Munich.

He may have been brilliant at Benfica, where he scored 32 goals in 38 matches, but his opening displays for Liverpool led to plenty of criticisms and doubts over his chances of success at Anfield. Nunez, however, never doubted himself and is bent on proving the doubters wrong.

The season is long, but Nunez will have little time to catch his breath as it should be a hectic season with the World Cup hemmed in between. Despite his initial poor displays, Nunez has warned other teams about what to expect from him this season after he scored four against RB Leipzig.

Nunez silences doubters

Many have doubted whether Darwin Nunez would settle well in the Premier League. The doubts came after his performance in his first pre-season match for Liverpool. To say he was woeful in that game understates the fact, but Jurgen Klopp remained adamant that the Uruguayan will thrive in the Premier League.

Perhaps, communication limited the ability of the Uruguayan to be at his best, but he seems to be gradually settling at the club. In another friendly, Nunez served notice of what he can do by silencing doubters with a brilliant display. Liverpool beat RB Leipzig 5-0, and Nunez was on target four times.

The Uruguayan scored four second-half goals to leave his doubters wondering if they haven’t judged him harshly. The former Benfica forward joined Liverpool in a deal that could rise to £85 million. Nunez did not allow the weight of the price tag to weigh him down as he put up a ruthless display that justified the heavy outlay on him.

A ruthless display

Darwin Nunez got his first goal of the day via a penalty. The Uruguayan scored the second of the game after Mohamed Salah had opened the scoring in the first half.

The penalty seemed to notify everyone of what was to come. Nunez added his second of the night moments later with a composed finish with his right foot. The second goal came after Liverpool had won the ball in a dangerous area.

The Liverpool forward was back on the score chart with a third goal. Nunez latched on to the end of Harvey Elliot’s low cross from the right to complete his hat-trick. He then got his fourth goal of the day late in the game. The performance sends a message to his doubters that he is no joke.

Liverpool next plays Austrian side RB Salzburg in another friendly on Wednesday.

Gradually, Nunez is settling into the Liverpool way, and he could be the original article. He proved against Leipzig why Liverpool forked out all that money for him.
