Liverpool suffer injury blow with Alisson ruled out for a few weeks

It is dark times for Liverpool as Alisson has been ruled out for a few weeks with a hamstring injury.

The Brazilian has already spent some time on the sidelines with a thigh problem and is now set to spend more time on the sidelines after picking up a bizarre knock in the Reds’ 1 – 0 away win at Crystal Palace which has now been revealed to be a hamstring injury.

“What I do know is that when a player walks off like he did, it normally means he’s not in the Brazil squad and I don’t expect him to be in the team for the first match we play after the break,” Liverpool manager Arne Slot said after Diogo Jota’s ninth-minute goal sealed Liverpool’s sixth win in seven league games this season.

“We have to wait and see but it will be a few weeks for him to be back. I think it is, yes (his hamstring).

“He’s clearly our number one, he’s the best goalkeeper in the world. It’s always a blow when he gets injured, not only for him but us as a team.”

Alexis Mac Allister also suffered an injury in the game and this has also worried Slot. “How bad that [Mac Allister’s injury] is, it’s not for me to judge at this moment.

“He felt it and said ‘it’s not good to keep on playing because it could be made worse’.

“It’s difficult for me to say if he can play for Argentina. It was in the groin area.”

In more positive news for the Reds fans, Ibrahima Konate is set to receive a new contract after his strong performances in defence alongside Virgil Van Dijk. Sources have also claimed that Slot is a big fan of the defender and that he has him in his long-term plans at Liverpool.

The Frenchman lost his place temporarily to Jarrel Quansah but has since turned things around to rack up more appearances to take his appearance tally to 99 for the Merseysiders. The new contract will see him extend his stay at Anfield for three more years at least but the kinks of the deal are still being worked out.

Meanwhile, they are still worried about the contract situations of Van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose situation in particular is making Jason Cundy see red.

“Trent is the one that is a head-scratcher for me,” the former Chelsea defender said on talkSPORT. “He’s 25/26, to allow him to go, that is ridiculous for me. His contract is going to expire. How are we having this conversation, why is this conversation taking place?

“This conversation is obsolete, because the contract, as far as we’re aware, hasn’t taken place. I’m stunned, we’re in October now. If you value the player enough at your football club, they should not go into the final two years of their contract.

“As soon as you get into 18 months, question marks start, and then the player’s power becomes more and more. He’s got the golden ticket, Trent. He’s 26 years of age, obviously he wants to stay you would have thought at Liverpool, he’s been there since he was six.

“20 years he’s been at the football club, he’s very much part of the future of the football club. For us to be having a conversation about what might happen to him on the first of January… he can sign a pre-contract with Real Madrid on the first of Jan.

“That’s three months away, think about that. That is insane. Walk for nothing.”
