Liverpool have completed the signing of French striker Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt for an initial fee of £69 million, pending international clearance.
The 23-year-old underwent a medical and agreed to personal terms before finalizing the move. He is expected to join his new teammates on their preseason tour in Asia later this week.
Transfer terms and competition for signature
Eintracht Frankfurt accepted Liverpool’s proposal earlier in the week, with the total package valued at £79 million. The deal includes £10 million in potential bonuses, with £69 million guaranteed.
Newcastle United had also pursued Ekitike, submitting a £70 million offer, which was turned down. Liverpool was also understood to be tracking Newcastle forward Alexander Isak during the window.
Busy summer at Anfield
With this acquisition, Liverpool’s summer spending now exceeds £250 million. Earlier in the window, they captured Florian Wirtz in a deal that could break the British transfer record at £116 million.
They also brought in defenders Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong for a combined outlay of £70 million, reinforcing multiple areas of the squad ahead of the new campaign.
Ekitike’s impact in Germany
Ekitike enjoyed an impressive season in the Bundesliga, netting 15 times in 31 starts and contributing eight assists as Frankfurt secured a third-place finish.
His attacking output stood among the league’s elite. Only five players recorded more goals, and none attempted more than his 117 efforts on goal.
Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krosche praised the striker’s contribution, highlighting his progress and influence both on the field and within the club. He added that Ekitike had earned the opportunity to move forward in his career through his recent displays.
