Liverpool not content with one point against Arsenal, says Alexander-Arnold

Liverpool players are distraught over their lone point secured against visitors Arsenal in their Premier League tie on Sunday night, says Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The league leaders visited Anfield with the hopes of extending their lead at the top of the table to eight points, following Manchester City’s demolition of Southampton on Saturday afternoon. They started strong, scoring twice in less than 30 minutes to pile pressure on their hosts, who needed a favourable result for their own goals.

Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah then scored his 13th goal of the season to cut Arsenal’s lead in half just before the break. The Reds took the initiative in the second half and Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale had to step up to the plate.

The England international’s saves would count for a lot as the match eventually ended up in a 2 – 2 draw, thanks to a late goal from Roberto Firmino.

Following the completion of the game, Alexander-Arnold claimed that the point against Arsenal did not go down well with the team. He also stated that they will build on it in their remaining fixtures as they aim to get back into the top four.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, he said: “[It was] intense. A very, very good game of football. I think both sides played great football at times. We never started the way we wanted to. Going two behind at home is never good but we showed character, got into the game, obviously got the late equaliser and a huge chance at the end to go and win it.

“We’ll take the point but we know it could have been three.

The England international claimed that the team lacked intensity and confidence at the beginning, leading to Arsenal’s early strikes.

“Probably a little bit of confidence to play, lacked the intensity that we wanted to [have], not compact enough as a team,” he said. “There were a couple of things but I think towards the end of the first half we started to play the way we wanted to and then second half we definitely did.

“I think we had the better of them in the whole second half, limited their chances and could have scored a couple of goals. Against a team like that, you get punished for not starting a game quickly enough and that’s what happened today.”

Liverpool are away to Leeds United next weekend as they attempt to climb back into the top four.
