Liverpool is not for sale – FSG to World’s Richest Man

In a recent bombshell interview, Errol Musk, father of the World’s Richest Man, Elon Musk, states that his son is willing to buy Liverpool from Fenway Sports Group, an idea which the group has immediately shut down.

“I can’t comment on that. They’ll raise the price,” Errol said, while laughing, during an interview with Times radio. “But that doesn’t mean he’s buying it.”

“He would like to yes, obviously. Anybody would want to – so would I!”

Errol then spoke about his family’s roots in the city which influenced his son’s interest in the historic club.

“His grandmother was born in Liverpool, and we had relatives in Liverpool, and we were fortunate to know quite a lot of the Beatles because they grew up with some of my family. So, we are attached to Liverpool, you know.”

The comments quickly went viral and everyone has debated on the prospects of having the 53-year-old divisive figure own a football club in the world’s biggest and most popular football league.

Elon, who already owns Tesla, Space X and X (formerly Twitter) is known for his unique twist which overhauls the past operations of businesses he acquires. Having him in football would be an interesting prospect and this fact has been recognised by fans and the media who have been discussing his father’s comments since the interview.

Some fans, who have criticised the club’s transfer dealings of late, are leaning towards the prospect of Musk being the club’s new owner. This is despite FSG’s management of the club that has seen them expand Anfield and add more businesses which has increased its commercial value.

This has forced the club’s current owners, Fenway Sports Group, to come out with a statement to deny any approach from the billionaire and also declare that the club is not for sale in any capacity.

In May 2024, the club was valued at £4.3billion which would only scratch the surface of Musk’s net worth, which is almost at $500 billion. He could pay outright for the club if it truly was on the market but he has now learned that it is not.

If Musk buys Liverpool, it would also put him in the direct line of fire with the government of the United Kingdom, who he has been a strong critic of in recent months.

Money is always a big motivating factor, regardless, which means the chapter is not closed as FSG are businessmen by profession.
