Liverpool 7-0: Mo Salah brace sends him to top of Liverpool Premier League scoring charts

Egypt forward Mohamed Salah scored a brace in Liverpool’s 7-0 thrashing of rivals Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday evening to become the club’s all time leading goalscorer in the Premier League.

His 129 goals from 218 appearances over six seasons sees him stand alone as the best of the Reds’ Premier League goalscorers. It is a record that he could have broken earlier, going by his scoring form since he swapped the Stadio Olimpico in Italy for Anfield, but Liverpool’s poor form this season saw him suffer to make any impact.

That also meant less goals for the former FC Basel forward at this stage of the season compared to previous seasons. However, with Jürgen Klopp’s team now on the rise, Salah has achieved the long expected milestone and has also hit double figures in the league after 25 appearances so far this season.

They were not only monumental goals for Salah, but for Liverpool, who had struggled for large parts of the season.

Coming into the game outside the top six, the Reds were facing a Manchester United who were on a good run of form themselves.

Erik ten Hag received a shocker when his side ended up not being able to muster anything against Klopp’s men at Anfield, as has been in the past few seasons.

The rout was led by Salah, whose two assists in the game also saw him earn the man of the match award.

Speaking after the historic game, Salah expressed satisfaction at breaking the record and added that he will be celebrating with some tea.

“It’s very special, I can’t lie,” the 30-year-old told Sky Sports. “This record was in my mind since I came here. After my first season I was always chasing the record.

“To get it today against United with that result is unbelievable. I’m going home to celebrate with the family, Chamomile tea and sleep!”

His manager also showered praise on him for reaching the record, while praising him and the others for the overall impact they had on the game.

“129 goals, that is insane. What an unbelievable number!” Klopp said of Salah.

“He is a special player. We appreciate him now but in the future people will look back and be wow, we witnessed something really special.”

Then he added: “It was all top performances today. That is very important for us – 13 games to come? A lot of points to go for. Tonight it was perfect.”
