Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos in line for contract extensions at PSG

PSG are considering extending the contracts of both Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos for at least one year. Both veterans have been in good form for the club, with Ramos banishing the injuries that plagued him.

The French giants have the financial might to sign probably any player in the world. The Paris club are obsessed with winning the UEFA Champions League and have set a target for themselves to ensure the trophy eventually lands in France.

Only one French club has won the Champions League – Marseille. For several years, PSG have been buying the best talent in the game but have been unable to land the trophy they covet most.

The Paris giants had two tense summers in which they did all within their powers to fend off Real Madrid from signing their crown jewel – Kylian Mbappe.

Neither UEFA nor FIFA have seen anything wrong in what PSG is doing. The French side is looking to consolidate its position with some of its players. PSG is considering extending the contracts of Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos.

PSG plan to keep Ramos and Messi longer at the Parc des Princes

Two sides that live in different spheres but operate in the same league. La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona are on opposite sides of the divide. While Real Madrid have moved on from some of their legends who have left the club, Barcelona are still whining like a long-lost lover, hoping their partner returns.

If Los Blaugrana hopes to bring Lionel Messi back to the Nou Camp, they need to move quickly, as PSG has other plans. The Paris giants believe the Argentine maestro has more value to give at the Parc des Princes.

According to L’Equipe in a report by Mundo Deportivo, there are plans by PSG and Sporting Advisor Luis Campos to extend the contract of Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos. Both players have contracts that expire next summer, and PSG wants to offer them a one-year extension.

While it may be straightforward with Sergio Ramos, who Real Madrid has no interest in bringing to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, Lionel Messi is still a wanted man at the Nou Camp. Recent reports suggest that the former Barcelona star man is not looking beyond what could be his final World Cup in November. Messi wants to leave an impression before walking into the twilight.

An awkward sight

Did PSG sign Sergio Ramos and Lionel Messi to spite Real Madrid and Barcelona? Did the French giants bring both club legends to Paris to bolster their squad and help them win the Champions League? Whatever the purpose, it remains an awkward sight to see Messi and Ramos playing at an obscure rich club who have made no impression in the Champions League.

Sergio Ramos and Lionel Messi were at different ends of a fierce rivalry in Spain. Seeing both men on the same side is perhaps too much for many to swallow. They are icons of a great rivalry in Spain and represent the face of Real Madrid and Barcelona for many years. It is hard to see Ramos batting on the same side with a player he has consistently targeted in some violent fouls over the years.

With both players sharing the same dressing room now, PSG hope to keep it that way, at least for another year.
